Micro OLED, also known as micro-OLED, is a silicon-based display that uses a single-crystal silicon wafer as a backplane (essentially a circuit board). Organic light-emitting diodes (or OLEDs) are on top, and thousands can be added.
This packs a total of 23 million pixels into two displays, each about the size of a postage stamp. Apple Vision Pro supports wide color and high dynamic range.
OLED microdisplays combine rich OLED technology with image sensor backplane technology to achieve high image quality and resolution, high contrast, wide color gamut and fast response. The main application for OLED microdisplays is in cameras' EVFs (electronic viewfinders). A rich lineup of high-brightness products that extend applications to AR and VR headsets and various applications.
OLED microdisplays not only have the high image quality unique to OLED, but also can achieve ultra-high resolution of about 4,000 ppi due to the use of high-mobility single-crystal silicon wafers as backplanes. This is why LTPS (low-temperature polysilicon) OLEDs are increasingly being used in applications where ultra-compact, ultra-high-resolution products cannot meet the demands.
Their main features: high resolution, high contrast, wide color gamut and fast response.
-Applications
These products are used in EVFs (electronic viewfinders) for consumer cameras. OLED microdisplays offer high image quality and fast response times, making them ideal display devices for accurately capturing camera subjects.
2.AR and VR glasses/goggles
These products are expected to expand into various use cases, including AR and VR glasses/goggles segments, entertainment, industrial applications, and sports. Specifically, they are key display devices for future headsets expected to power consumer AR glasses and virtual worlds.
As a display for drone piloting headsets, OLED microdisplays are very attractive due to their compact display size and fast response, allowing for particularly low latency.
EVF (Electronic Viewfinder) applications for outdoor monocular and binocular sights.
The high image quality of these OLED microdisplays enables them to be effectively used as displays for medical headsets for surgical support as well as for assistive eyewear for the visually impaired.
OLED microdisplays are best suited as display devices for EVFs in industrial microscopes and other professional equipment that require high-quality image display.
